Mr. Paul Benjaman Karleskindt (above) and I go way back. From the Rewake days with Malan Darras. Paul is an honest to goodness guitar virtuoso. He can play any style with soul. In the Paul Benjaman Band, he finds his true voice, hearkening back to the famed Tulsa Sound, channeling J.J. Cale and Allman Brothers.
The band is a mix of old and new, a “refreshing blend of the Tulsa Sound with twists of modern funk, western swing, okie reggae, and bebop.” They undoubtedly have a 70s sound, and it was vital that the photos conveyed that. So I dusted off my grandpa’s old Polaroid.
Another way i tried to hint at their classic sound was to do a bit of polaroidish color shifting, film grain, and a Lensbaby lens. The blurring was done with the lens, not in post. Above is drummer Bones.
