South by Southwest Music Conference and Festival 2009 has come and gone, and I’m still mostly gone. But it’s time to post some photos. I had the privilege of shooting the fest for the Tulsa World, and the pleasure of hanging out many awesome friends and bands over the week/end.
I arrived at 6am after an all-night drive. My first charge was the DFEST / OK Film and Music day party at Palm Door. Many of my favorite Oklahoma Bands were on the bill. Above are twee-art-punk rockers Colourmusic. They lit the place on fire.

Above left, Colourmusic’s “Roy Bass” gets way down, and above right is the awesome singer/songwriter Ryan Lindsey.

The crowd at the Dfest/OK Film and Music party was into it.

Above are Stillwater based band Other Lives, their new album is debuting in 2 weeks. The fuse is lit, they are about to blow up, keep your ear to the ground.

The Uglysuit (above and below) is an awesome Oklahoma City based band. You must check them out. Right now. Also explosive. Kaboom.

See that hair? He left some of it in the ceiling fan. Seriously. Below left is Jonnnathan of The Uglysuit on keys. Below right is Stars Go Dim, who recently won the Billboard Songwriting contest in the pop category, and also won a spot on Mayercraft.

Apart from the Oklahoma bands, I had some time to shoot some of my favorite bands. Below is the GREAT band The Rural Alberta Advantage, from, fittingly, rural Alberta Canada. They released an album last year that has become one of my faves of all time, entitled “Hometowns.” Think Neutral Milk Hotel, only better. Yes, i said BETTER.

Next, Grizzly Bear performed. They were good. Being that I’d had about 2 hrs of sleep that day, I went back to my friend Bryan’s house to crash and gear up for Day 2. I’d like to publicly thank Bryan for his hospitality. I love you man, but not in the way you are thinking.
